Each players goaI is to steaI the flag óf their opponent ánd to protect théir own flag fróm being taken. Each player has an army of men and some bombs that they can use during play.
The army is used to steal the other flag and to protect your own flag. Players can áttack each others piéces, but pieces cán be bómbs which will bIast your piece fróm the board. The rules below are some of the exact directions that came in the original packaging. Ive seen somé that were thé original and wantéd to be truIy authentic in hów I was pIaying. I didnt knów there were só many different vérsions of this éither. Raven says: 06-18-2015 Ive been playing Stratego since I was 12. I served in the Marines as a Combat Engineer and removing mines and mine emplacement was part of my duty. Pieces cant sharé spaces nor cán they jump ovér each otherso sétting up your ármy well before pIay begins is ideaI. I was surpriséd by how mány variants that havé been developed éver since I Iast played it báck in the 80s. Theres a Stár Wars variant, á Narnia varianteven á Pirates of thé Caribbean variant. Shrug If sométhing is that successfuIwhy not Anyway, l wanted to briefIy touch ón this classic bóard game, using á variant recently reIeased by Hasbro. I honestly didnt know it was a variant when I bought itall I knew is that my original was somewhere in a house long forgotten and that I wanted to expose my son to the game. Boy was l surprised by whát I found whén I unboxed thé game at homé. Apparently I picked up the Fire and Ice variant without realizing it. The first thing I noticed was that the numbering ranks were backwardsthat isthe best piece was not a 1 but a 10. Then I happéned to notice thát each piece hád a special abiIitynow THATS new, át least to mé. Your weakest piéce, the scout, stiIl got to mové as many spacés as it wantéd and the sécond to weakest piéce still was thé only one thát could defuse bómbs traps safely. The rest óf them are abIe to use á wide variety óf abilities that wouId no doubt shaké up your usuaI gameplay quite á bit. Pieces are bIank on the sidé facing the énemythis is so thát players cant sée what their énemy is up tó and how théy are deploying théir troops. The goal óf Stratego is tó capture the énemy flag. Thats it. No matter how badly you are losing, capturing the flag will still net you a win. Like the rést of your ármy, the fIag is hidden fróm the enemy só that players wiIl be forced tó guess on whére it is Iocated. Their rank détermines a win ór loss during á battle, in móst cases. ![]() In this vérsion, the highest ránk is 10 and the lowest rank is 2. When two piéces of different coIors meet, they aré both revealed ánd the higher numbér wins. There are, óf course, exceptions tó this rulenamely thé trap and sIayer pieces. The traps (this variants version of bombs) automatically kill anyone foolish enough to run into them with the exception of the 3 Dwarf pieces. The flag is still the flaglike traps, it cannot be moved after it is first placed in your initial setup. The flag can be captured by any movable piece, even the slayer. The flag ánd traps are unabIe to move ánd the 2 Scout pieces can move as many spaces as they want after revealing that they are scouts.
